Spring Spectacular has officially wrapped up! Throughout the months of April and May the Tacony CDC collaborated with neighbors and community partners to bring special free family-fun events to Tacony. With something for everyone, we hope you all enjoyed them as much as we did!

Through combined efforts of community members, organizations, churches, and our staff we were able to bring 10 events to Tacony at no cost to our neighbors! We estimate that over 500 people attended throughout this series of events.

Starting with April First Friday at the Tacony LAB Community Art Center where artists from all over Northeast Philadelphia hosted a community art show.

Next up, as part of the Philly Spring Cleaning we hosted a Neighborhood Clean Up in partnership with Councilmember Driscoll, Representatives Gallagher and Hohenstein, Senator Picozzi, and the Tacony LAB, gathering neighbors together to beautify Tacony by keeping our neighborhood free of trash! While we worked on the West side of Torresdale Avenue, members of the congregations at the Tacony Baptist Church and Shepherd’s House World Changers Church International took the East side.

Our Lady of Consolation Church hosted a Palm Week Celebration as well as a Good Friday Street Procession where community members were able to participate in these Easter season events.

An EID Mubarak Party to celebrate the end of Ramandan was hosted at the Tacony Library where all religions were welcome to join in on the feast. Also hosted at the Library was the Reptiles Rock event where the Center for Aquatic Sciences came to the neighborhood to teach our community about some scaly friends!

To help our Tacony families celebrate Easter, Holy Innocents St. Paul's Episcopal Church hosted Storytime and Movie with Charlie the Bunny! The night started with a storytime led by Charles Von Hoppenstein, followed by an egg hunt, and ended with a viewing of the movie Peter Rabbit. It was a fun and successful family night for all!

One of our favorite events was the Floral Bouquet Making hosted at the Tacony Mayfair Sons of Italy Lodge with the session led by Tony Volpe! With a sold out crowd of 70 people, our Tacony community loved their time spent making beautiful bouquets to help celebrate Spring and Mother’s Day! We also had refreshments provided by Councilmember Driscoll for our neighbors to enjoy. Our last Spring Spectacular event was the Clean Up and Yoga in the Park. Tacony neighbors came out to clean up in and around Disston Park followed by a yoga session with Selena Washington! We hope to bring more events like this one to the neighborhood in the future.

The Tacony CDC is incredibly grateful for all of our partners, sponsors, and neighbors who helped to make Spring Spectacular possible! We hope our community enjoyed the events celebrated this Spring and continue to support us in our celebration of Tacony always!
