Fall for Tacony returned for 2025 and brought the fun to the neighborhood! Throughout September and October, Tacony CDC and our partners put together a series of free and low-cost family friendly events for the neighborhood to enjoy. Read all about it now!
We kicked things off at the Mural Arts Tacony LAB Community Arts Center September First Friday, where our community celebrated new art banners installed along Torresdale Ave and enjoyed refreshments, community, and meaningful neighborhood artwork by local artist Ayiana Viviana. Thank you to Mural Arts Philadelphia for all the beautiful work you continue to support! You can check out some photos of the event here.
Every Sunday in September and October consisted of morning yoga at Thunder Mug Café led by Selena Washington. The class fee covered a pastry, latte, or hot chocolate!
Another Tacony tradition came back around this Fall: the Second Annual Tacony Neighborhood Yard Sale on September 13th and 14th was a huge hit! Thank you to the Tacony Civic Association for all the hard work you have put into making this happen. We’re so proud to have partnered with the Civic and supported the Yard Sale for the second year in a row! Check out our recap here and keep an eye out for updates on next year’s yard sale.
PARK(ing) Day was up next on September 19th, with lots of activities to choose from. We were thrilled to host two locations this year: one at Thunder Mug Café (6940 Torresdale Ave) and the other at the Tacony LAB (6918 Torresdale Ave)! At Thunder Mug we listened to live music, relaxed in an outdoor lounge space, and hosted a plant and gardening supplies swap with free refreshments provided by Thunder Mug Café and Bread Crumbs Bakery. Just down the street, the Tacony LAB offered a kid-friendly lounge zone with refreshments, children’s games, art activities and free face painting! In-between both locations attendees had the opportunity to learn more about Vision Zero from our Tacony Representative Georgeanne at Marie Huff Hairdressing. Watch our fun day here.
On September 23rd we partnered with the staff at Tacony Library to host Spooky Movie Night! Over 60 community members enjoyed a screening of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with friends and family and complimentary refreshments.
Then, the Tacony LAB hosted a fantastic Scarecrow Making event on September 29th. It was a blast making decorations for the Halloween season! After the session, participants entered their scarecrows into a competition judged by the people of Tacony and lined the streets with them for the big First Friday Spooky Maker Market on October 3rd!
The Maker Market was a great event put together by the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center and Thunder Mug Café. Vendors lined the 6900 block of Torresdale Avenue with unique (and spooky!) handmade wares, while we all voted for our favorite Scarecrow. You can still see some of the scarecrows on Torresdale Avenue, let us know which is your favorite!
Back at the Tacony Library, families enjoyed two free events: Monster Mash with Ms. Dee on October 4th and Painting with a Treat on October 6th with Ms. Arlene. It was a blast baking and making together! Then on October 8th, the Tacony LAB hosted Pumpkin Carving where families came together with Halloween spirit and created some beautiful jack-o’-lanterns!
On October 18th, more than 20 community members joined Offbeat Philly for the Tacony Ghost Tour. We traversed the spooky history of Tacony, discovering new stories of True Crime and hauntings from decades past.
More Halloween preparations happened at the Tacony Library at the Costume Making event on October 20th with Ms. Nessie! Youth ages 10-18 were invited to come and create their own special spooky costume for the big holiday, with free supplies and refreshments.
Up next was the big event! On October 25th, we celebrated Fall Fest! where Tacony families came out to enjoy everything we had to offer at the Tacony Library. With costume contests for kids of all ages, arts and crafts, games, slime dump, a live Halloween band, and more. This is a fun-filled day that we look forward to every year, and it was a huge success for the neighborhood with over 300 attendees! Thank you to all of partners and sponsors for this event: Marie Huff Hairdressing, Maebee’s Beauty Studio, Evergreen Supermarket, New Pizza Villa, Michael’s Glass Co., Tacony Library, Tacony LAB, Thunder Mug Café, Councilmember Mike Driscoll, Awesome Little Cupcakes, Chantell Unique and Creative Beauty Salon, and El Limon Mexican Taqueria.
Fall for Tacony wasn’t over just yet! Adult Trivia at the Tacony Library took place on October 27th with spooky fun and refreshments. To close out Fall for Tacony with a last minute Halloween activity for families, artist Bob Dix led a Painting with a Treat session at the Tacony LAB on October 30th!
Thank you to our community and partners for all your support making Fall for Tacony a great success for the neighborhood! See you next year!
