What a weekend! On September 7th and 8th, the entire Tacony Community came together to host our First Annual Neighborhood-Wide Yard Sale.

It all started with an idea from Anne Sanderson. An avid flea market seller and yard sale shopper, Anne suggested that the Tacony neighborhood host its own yard sale. The idea took off! With the help of the Tacony Civic Association and the Tacony Community Development Corporation, Anne set a date and began planning. Within days, more than 30 people had agreed to sell, and by the time the event rolled around we were approaching 100! We worked with Anne to create the list of participating houses and create a map which would show the nearly 45 blocks participating. Folks were so excited about the idea, we got sign ups right until the moment before the map was sent for printing. Once the maps came in, a fleet of volunteers from the Tacony Civic Association, the Tacony Community Development Corporation, and Anne herself, worked tirelessly to get them all folded and distributed to every house that signed up across the neighborhood.

Finally the day came, and despite warnings of rain the neighborhood came alive! One of the most exciting things about this event was how many neighbors we got to meet just walking the streets. By the end of it all, there were more than 100 yard sales scattered all over the neighborhood and we had several restaurants running special deals. Residents told us how much they enjoyed the weekend and what a great time they had meeting new people and seeing neighbors. We also got to hear from visitors who came just for the yard sale! They were super impressed with the beautiful houses and the sense of camaraderie Tacony has to offer.

This was such a great event, and something we look forward to helping with for years to come. Thank you so much to Anne Sanderson, the Tacony Civic Association, the Tacony LAB Community Arts Center, the Tacony Baptist Church, Pizza Time, Fink's Hoagies, Jack's Place, and everyone else who worked hard to make this weekend awesome!
