Tacony Small Businesses welcomed customers on Saturday November 26th for a special day of shopping. Tacony Community Development Corporation Director Alex Balloon was on hand to great shoppers at Puddin's Cake Corner and thank them for "shopping small" in the neighborhood. In partnership with American Express, the CDC provided participating businesses marketing materials, giveaway materials, and special shopping bags for customers. The CDC also coordinated a social media campaign to jointly promote Small Business Saturday and local businesses to attract both new and longtime customers.
The Tacony Community Development Corporation has been a longtime organizer for Small Business Saturday. First organized by American Express in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Small Business Saturday was created to encourage people to shop in their neighborhood and support small businesses. Four years ago, the Tacony CDC organized our very first small business retail promotion for the Holiday Shopping Season in partnership with Winterfest at the Free Library of Philadelphia, giving attendees special deals, shopping bags, and business directories with a targeted online promotion.
