New Murals in Tacony! Our project, Storydale Avenue, consists of 11 new murals installed on and inside of seven businesses along Torresdale Avenue. The murals were installed on October 4, 2024 by a team headed by the artist, Mat Tomezsko. A huge thank you to everyone who helped get the murals installed!
Storydale Ave tells the stories of Tacony’s residents using images created by community neighbors at several community paint days throughout the year hosted in partnership with Tacony Library, Mural Arts Tacony LAB Community Arts Center and the Historical Society of Tacony.
This project was funded by Feet First Philly of the Clean Air Council, the State Department of Economic and Community Development and Councilmember Mike Driscoll. We are so thankful for our funders who made this project possible and the support we received from them.
Our grand opening ceremony was hosted on October 11 in the Jack Costello Boxing Club parking lot. It was a great time with music from members of Free Range Folk, button making with Tacony LAB, food from the TUCKEDito food truck and cookie painting with 1984 Cakes. Executive Director of the Tacony CDC, Xhulio Binjaku, started off our opening with a speech about what the Storydale Avenue project means to the neighborhood. He was followed by speeches from Councilmember Mike Driscoll, Senator Jimmy Dillon, Representative Pat Gallagher and Titania Markland of Feet First Philly.
We invite you to join the exploration of the murals with our interactive scavenger hunt launching on November 30 for Small Business Saturday, and to visit the hosting businesses on your own: Las Go Nuts, Athenian Diner, Jack Costello Boxing Club, Evergreen Supermarket, Bull’s Eye Dart Supply, Thunder Mug Café (opening date TBA) and Convenient Grocery. Thank you so much to these businesses for displaying the artwork made by the community and Mat Tomezsko, and another thank you to everyone who supported this project in order for it to come to life!
