Thunder Mug Café & Market is finally HERE! We celebrated the Grand Opening of Tacony’s new Thunder Mug Café & Market this past Wednesday, May 14th. From free drinks to live music and a ribbon cutting, our celebration was a huge hit!
Residents who took the Tacony CDC Resident Survey listed a sit-down coffee shop as the number one business they desired. The Tacony CDC reached out to the Power Up Your Business Program at the Community College of Philadelphia to help identify a potential coffee shop. They connected us with Lizette, the owner of Thunder Mug’s first location in East Falls. Through two years of identifying space and providing small business support, we were able to successfully help Lizette open up this new cafe and market, bringing new business and activity to Tacony! Thank you to Chris Hess and Tiffany Spraggins-Payne of Power Up Your Business for coming to the grand opening to show your support!
As a welcome to the neighborhood, the Tacony CDC purchased all drinks sold between the hours of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the grand opening. The generous neighbors and visitors of Tacony showed their support for the new business and gave their patronage by buying delicious pastries and produce. We are excited to see this patronage grow in the future! We also paid for live music during these hours; thank you to Philly-based artists Dustbin Massachusetts and G.T. Arpe for keeping us entertained!
At 11:30 a.m., a host of neighbors, friends, and supporters came together for the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Thank you to Councilmember Driscoll and Representatives from the offices of Representatives Hohenstein and Gallagher for attending to help us welcome Thunder Mug Café and Market to Tacony! A huge thank you goes out to Balloons with Pleasure, who was gracious enough to set Thunder Mug up with a beautiful and fun balloon display, and to JME Print Shop, who worked hard to give us a fast turn-around on their grand opening banner hanging on the building! Thank you to these Tacony businesses for helping your neighbors, make sure to check them out for your balloon and signage needs!
Thank you to everyone who stopped by the grand opening of Thunder Mug and showed their support for Tacony’s newest small business! If you missed it, don’t worry! The Café is open every day from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 6940 Torresdale Avenue. Stop by for delicious pastries, breakfast bagels, fresh produce, yummy coffee drinks, and more! Keep an eye out for extended hours and an expanded menu coming this Summer. Good luck to Thunder Mug Café and Market on their new venture, we can’t wait to see what the future holds!
