Code Court Building Mural Dedication!

January 24 2025

On January 15th at Russo Park, community members and politicians gathered to celebrate the Code Court Building Mural Dedication! In partnership with Councilmember Driscoll, Tacony LAB Community Art Center, Mural Arts Philadelphia and Origlio Beverage - they were able to get this project funded and up and running! The Tacony CDC Staff attended the dedication event and we would like to give our congratulations to the artist Jamee Grigsby, Councilmember Driscoll and Tacony LAB Community Art Center on this beautiful project!

Artist Jamee Grigsby worked hard to create two new murals to be admired in the Holmesburg neighborhood. Inspired by messages for responsibility and access to justice, Grigsby painted the murals titled Responsibility Blooms in Our Neighborhood and Pathways to Justice. The murals were completed in collaboration with Tacony residents at Community Paint Days and can be viewed on all sides of the building, giving neighbors a great view of the art!

Emily Hitchner at Tacony LAB served as project manager for Responsibility Blooms in Our Neighborhood - the mural which promotes drinking responsibly. Barb Baur, program manager at the LAB, served as project manager for Pathways to Justice.

City Councilmember Mike Driscoll brought the idea of opening a Code Court to Municipal Court in order to settle disputes between landlords and tenants and improve the quality of life in neighborhoods. Driscoll wanted to make travel more convenient for landlords and tenants, instead of requiring them to navigate Center City. Councilmember Driscoll also hopes the new Code Court Building could be the place of operations for the Mayor’s Office of Public Engagement for the 6th Councilman District in the future.
