On February 7th, the Mural Arts Tacony LAB Community Arts Center hosted a special First Friday event welcoming Thunder Mug Café to the neighborhood!The space at 6940 Torresdale Avenue was filled with future customers excited to get their first look at the new café space and celebrate local artists, Michelle Gibbs and Bob Dix, whose work is featured on the Café walls!
The Tacony LAB Community Art Center will continue to partner with Thunder Mug to display local artists’ work in the future. We got a small taste of that at this month’s First Friday! Local artists, Bob Dix and Michelle Gibbs had their art pieces displayed all throughout the cafe showcasing their talent. Both Bob and Michelle have been involved with the Tacony LAB Community Art Center for years teaching different kinds of classes. We are so excited to combine local art with local business! Check out Michelle’s Etsy page where you can view her folksy cat-inspired artwork and adorable creative stickers with something for everyone! Bob’s art displayed on his own Etsy page, showcases his Philly art as well as his darker artwork. Bob and Michelle’s artwork in the Café have a common theme of animal subjects - make sure to appreciate the creativity of these individuals when you get a chance to visit! Thunder Mug also provided all of the guests with complimentary coffee!
Thunder Mug owner, Lizette, offered impromptu tours of the space to the guests - getting to know some of her future customers and showing them the cafe in all its glory!
The CDC provided some refreshments for the crowd as they enjoyed the art and coffee. We are so excited for Thunder Mug to be opening so soon!
We’re so lucky to bring Thunder Mug here – we worked one-on-one with the owners, welcoming them to the neighborhood and letting them know about the opportunities for growth here. We showed Lizette several available restaurant spaces and she chose Torresdale Ave for her second cafe location.
