Final Community Paint Will Feature Live Music and Free Food

July 11 2024

Throughout the Spring and Summer, the Tacony CDC has been working with artist Mat Tomezsko on a public art project featuring the stories of Tacony. On July 26th, we'll be hosting the final Community Paint Session for the Storydale Avenue series, and ending things with a bang! This event will feature live music performed by Grupo Sumak, free pizza, as well as yummy drinks provided by Nicolleti Beverage, all hosted in the beautiful Historical Society Garden located at 4901 Longshore Avenue from 5PM to 7PM.

Grupo Sumak is a Cumbia band based in Philadelphia. The five members hail from all over South America and each bring their own cultural traditions to the music. Cumbia, a musical rhythm and folk dance tradition of Latin America, is known for having several sub-genres, each bringing their own energy. Grupo Sumak is an offshoot of the band Mariposas Galactica, who recently headlined at the West Philly Porchfest Afterparty. Check them out on South Street July 3rd to get a feel for the music, then come back for more in Tacony!

This is the final opportunity to have your art included in the Storydale Avenue Project, which will culminate in a series of public murals installed all over Torresdale Avenue, both outside and inside of our businesses. Once completed, we look forward to hosting a celebration this October and giving everyone who participated a chance to show off their incredible work!
