The Tacony CDC is proud to announce Power Up Your Business, a free program that gives small business owners the tools they need to grow their business and help their communities thrive. This new program is a project of the Community College of Philadelphia that brings entrepreneurs and business owners together to provide education and training for new business owners. Power Up Your Business focuses specifically on neighborhood-based businesses that define communities in Philadelphia. The Torresdale Avenue commercial corridor is a symbol of the Tacony neighborhood that has seen great business success in recent years, and Power Up Your Business promises to give Tacony entrepreneurs the resources they need to establish and expand their businesses. Key partners include neighborhood-based business advisory groups and chambers of commerce, financial lenders, and community-based organizations with a focus on small businesses and entrepreneurship. These connections will provide an opportunity to build and strengthen connections for small businesses.
The Power Up Your Business program has two components that business owners can take advantage of. The Store Owner Series features individual workshops and small business resource events at each of the Community College of Philadelphia's four campuses. The events cover the basics of small business, financial management, personal and business credit and neighborhood-based marketing. Additionally, the Storefront Series will introduce business owners to Community College of Philadelphia's programs that support running a business efficiently, including classes for QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, ServSafe, Food Truck Management, Business Communication and more. The second component is the Peer-Based Learning Experience, which is a 10-week course in small business management that helps participants gain practical skills such as entrepreneurial leadership, understanding financial statements, financing, and how to create a tactical business improvement plan. Participants in this 30-hour course will also be supported by a business coach who will help troubleshoot challenges and help business owners create their own business improvement plans.
