The Tacony Community Development Corporation (CDC) is excited to participate in this year's Small Business Saturday! Small Business Saturday is an event created by American Express that started on November 27, 2010. The goal of the event was to get people to do their holiday shopping at small, local businesses. It has taken place annually since 2010, and Tacony CDC has participated every year. Last year, an estimated 112 million shoppers participated, which resulted in approximately $15.4 billion in revenue for small businesses around the country. Don't worry, you don't have to be an American Express Cardholder to Participate!
This year, Small Business Saturday is Tacony is on November 25th. The Tacony Community Development Corporation is partnering with local businesses to promote the event and encourage residents to participate. It will also be hosting a check-in event at the newly renovated Tacony Library with free giveaways from 10AM-1PM.

Why shop locally? Shopping locally has a positive impact on a community! It is estimated that for every $100 spent at local businesses, approximately $68 stays in the community. This money goes towards local taxes, employee wages, local suppliers, and charitable donations that benefit the local economy. For non-local businesses, only $43 of every $100 spent stays local. Also, on a per-dollar basis, local businesses give more to local charities than non-local businesses--another great reason to shop local!
