As part of our organization’s effort to improve public safety in the area, the Tacony CDC works closely with the 15th District of the Philadelphia Police, and is always available to local businesses looking to improve their safety. The CDC encourages our neighbors and business owners to use the anonymous tip line provided by the Philadelphia Police to help solve crimes. To report, you can call or text the tip line at 215-686-8477, or you can send photos and videos to tips@phillypolice.com.

In addition to working with local police, the CDC has implemented the City of Philadelphia’s Business Security Program to help install more than 150 cameras at local businesses. These cameras are registered in a police database. Security cameras are a proven resource helping to solve and deter crimes. A camera recording is more reliable than an eyewitness account, and visible cameras indicate that an area is monitered. Through the Business Security Camera Program, all businesses are eligible to receive up to 50% of the total cost of installation with a limit of $3,000 for each property. Contact the Tacony CDC at 215-501-7799 or alex@taconycdc.org to learn more about the program.

Another proven crime deterrent is light: a business with good indoor and outdoor lighting is less of a target for criminal activity, especially when combined with visible security cameras. The Storefront Improvement Program assists with the costs associated with improving exterior facades and lighting. The program can reimburse up to 50% of the cost of improvements with a maximum of $10,000 for a single commercial property. The Tacony CDC has used this program to help 40 businesses and complete 5 lighting projects in Tacony. To learn more about the program, contact the Tacony CDC at 215-501-7799 or alex@taconycdc.org.
