At the Tacony Community Development Corporation, we believe that Tacony residents should be included in the conversations about our community, and would be honored if our neighbors would attend a presentation of the Environmental Action Plan, to be held in the downstairs meeting room of the Tacony Library (6742 Torresdale Avenue) from 2 to 3:30 PM on May 2nd. This year, we've had the honor of working with a group of students from Temple University's City and Regional Planning Program on their Graduate Studio Project. These students identified Tacony as a neighborhood that deserves time and resources, and have spent the semester developing an Environmental Action Plan focused on improving sustainability, connectivity, and accessibility in Tacony.
Alexsys Frierson, Will Gleckner, Hanna Jacobs, Rebecca Jump, Chloe Moormann, and Molly Pollak are students in Temple University's Tyler School of Art and Architecture. This report serves as the final capstone studio project required for the Masters of Science in City and Regional Planning. Beginning with a tour of Tacony's existing natural and historic resources and visits to key locations within the neighborhood, the students have been speaking to key stakeholders in Tacony and gathering information about what this community already has and what it needs in order to be a more sustainable, connected, and accessible place for all.
In addition to conversations with local nonprofits like the Tacony CDC, Riverfront North Partnership, and RAIR Philly, they were also present at Tacony events. You may recognize them from the Mural Arts Tacony LAB Community Arts Center's April First Friday event, where Tacony residents were invited to respond to a survey about Environmental issues in Tacony, and discuss the patterns they've seen and experienced. These conversations directly informed the Environmental Action Plan, which is a series of suggested interventions to guide and inform the Tacony Community Development Corporation and the neighborhood as a whole in future efforts towards a clean, green, and connected community.
Members of the Tacony community are invited to attend the free presentation and provide their feedback on May 2nd, it will be hosted downstairs in the Tacony Library from 2-3:30 PM. The location is ADA accessible and refreshments will be provided. RSVP to xhulio@taconycdc.org. We look forward to seeing you there!
