Each year, Tacony has a few celebrations that highlight the sense of community this neighborhood has. The Block 2 School Block Party is one of those celebrations; not only bringing the Tacony community together, but providing a service to our students who are preparing for the school year. This year’s Block Party was hosted by The Block Gives Back, in partnership with the Tacony Community Development Corporation, Councilmember Mike Driscoll’s office, and other organizations.
One of the main goals for this event is to equip students with backpacks full of Back to School necessities like pencils, notebooks, folders, crayons, rulers, and hand sanitizer. Out of the 1,000 prepared for the event, The Block Gives Back was able to hand out about 700 fully-stocked backpacks! With the help of sponsors and community partners, they also provided music, a bouncy house, and lots of family-friendly games and activities.
Other local organizations, like the Tacony Library, hosted giveaways and information booths to remind our neighbors of everything this community has to offer. At the TCDC, we were able to reach out to many people from the community and get their feedback on a survey for the new 5-year strategic plan we are developing! If you would like to take the survey and provide insight into the future needs of Tacony, find the survey here!
Thank you so much to The Block Gives Back and all of the other partners, sponsors, and folk who showed up for putting this Block Party together. It was a great time, and the Tacony Community Development Corporation can’t wait for next year’s!
